How Far Can a Converted E-Bike Really Go?

Range is the number one question we get from riders considering a conversion kit. The honest answer is: it depends — but you can estimate it reliably once you understand the variables.
The simple formula
Range (km) ≈ Battery capacity (Wh) ÷ Consumption (Wh/km)
A typical 48V 14Ah battery holds about 672 Wh. On flat ground with pedal assist, a hub-motor conversion consumes roughly 8–12 Wh/km — so 55–80 km is realistic.
What reduces range
- Throttle-only riding instead of pedal assist
- Hills and headwind
- Cold weather (lithium cells lose capacity below 5°C)
- Higher assist levels and heavier loads
Getting more range
Pedal along with the motor, keep tyres properly inflated, and choose a larger battery if your commute is long. A mid-drive kit also stretches range on hilly routes because it uses your gears.
